Recording: Developing Resilience | Flaminglets Webinar

Our first Flaminglet webinar of the year happened on 20 April. We were joined by Guest Speaker Judith Reynolds, a lecturer in the Humanities Extended Curriculum Programme at Rhodes University & Dr Liana Roodt, founder and CEO of Project Flamingo.

Defining Resilience and Resources Resilience requires identifying internal and external resources rather than viewing it as a sole personality trait. Addressing systemic disparities remains essential for fostering genuine well-being.

Patient Challenges and Support

Patients navigate significant emotional loss, existential fear, and isolation during cancer treatment. Peer support and accessible information serve as vital resources for managing these long-term burdens.

Systemic Responsibility and Change Reframing resilience as a systemic issue empowers practitioners and shifts the burden away from individuals. Future efforts must prioritize changing environments to better support those in need.

More about Judith Reynolds: Judith Reynolds is a lecturer in the Humanities Extended Curriculum Programme at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape. She is currently working on a PhD looking at how academic and non-academic aspects of students' lives intersect and how students manage these intersections. She tries to find balance in her own life through yoga, walking, reading novels and travelling around South Africa. Judith was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2016.
